BAMA Advanced Class, Mondays 7.45pm
We took a more advanced look at knife defence this week with Tim San exploring some routines that really got to grips with deterring the knife wielding attacker. A rather unpleasant time for the opponents but seeing as everyone was having a good go nobody seemed to mind too much!! But if done for real well a mugger might well reconsider their actions!!

Holistic martial Arts Class, Tuesdays 6.30pm

On this beautifully sunny summers night, Richard San taught the relaxing; ‘Art Form’ to keep the class cooler! This form being made up of the flowing shapes derived from sword, each movement came from a sword draw or cut, but became in this class a smooth exercise in control and focus, the whole class spent an enjoyable hour flowing these forms.

Reflective Aikido, Tuesdays, 8.30pm

A great session, bouncing off the back of our Aikido seminar from the previous Saturday! We continued to look at the two first exercises from syllabus card; avoidance and contact exercises. Richard San then took the class through a very up-tempo lesson in advanced contact, leading to some great freestyle blocking and deflection exercises that really tested everyone, but were still great fun!

Japanese Sword, Tuesdays, 9.30pm

The sword class, got to grips with the new series cuts of ‘Budo Karma’ cuts, that really tap into the warrior spirit of sword, although not made up of advanced cuts, it still demands advanced focus and spirit, also the new stances and drawing speed help make this a successful and challenging pattern. Richard San has promised to teach it too the Blackbelts in next Mondays BAMA advanced class!

BAMA Karate and Aikido Te Class, Wednesdays, 6.45pm
Lots of syllabus work again this week, gradings are once again just around the corner and everyone was looking sharp.
Tim san though couldn’t resist another opportunity to rant about the importance of stances and got on his soap box once again to emphasize the key point. That man is like a dog with a frizbie!! But the session came to a close with some great self defence routines that brought Tim sans points to the fore. Excellent work guys!!

<Philosophy Group

Its wonderful to explore the self and Zen in many different ways, not just through discussions and Koans in the normal classes, so this week saw the group take a drawing class! The lessons of concentration, observation and reality of course flowed forth in plenty. Just to to have the merest glimpse of the world as an artist sees it is a true gift, and a lesson to us all!

Orange, Blue & Brown gradings due in Ken-Kai-Ryu, that I’ll have to see!

Having recently received a copy of the Reflective Aikido syllabus I’m very jealous of those who are actually getting the chance to practice it, I have a feeling that the concepts, timing and flow will result in some poetically powerful Bushido Partner work.
