Lots of technical input this week as our students move ever forward toward to their gradings and a deeper understanding of their chosen subjects. It is always great to see people developing and progressing and there is nothing better for an instructor than to see a lesson learnt and a particularly tricky move perfected by the students.

This week saw the re-introduction of the dreaded ‘hand technique test’ keeping students from all disciplines and grades well and truly on their toes. To help with this over the coming weeks check on your ‘members area’ for details and articles about syllabus names and requirements.

Why learn names of techniques we hear you ask? A good question!Karate Cheltenham

Quite a few answers to that question, the first being; you will need to know them to pass a grading! 🙂 But our dojo is based on a traditional approach to learning and understanding of this amazing subject we call martial arts, some of the modern style’s of teaching don’t use the original terms when they teach their fighting arts, which is fine for them. But what we love about the way we teach our subject is studying and truly trying to understanding it in depth, the art is more than just self-defence and body conditioning thats just a useful by-product if you like, the good stuff is how it expands and trains your mind, the discipline and hard work of learning the technical names is part of this process, and of course makes a student practice the technique, which in turn makes the technique become a part of them, job done!

See you in the dojo! (Hall of learning)
