It was lovely to see the sword group in action and ‘in motion’ this Monday night, and even better for Richard San when the higher grades just wanted to keep going with the sword class and not do their normal 2nd half ‘combat’ type sessions with Tim San next! 🙂

These sword classes are now becoming a lovely mix of Aikido and Karate students from the Wednesday night giving it a try, and the more experienced sword students working towards their sword grades. But then their are our instructors like Hayley San, who now find that this is the subject that most fulfills their martial art spirit. It is a privilege for ‘grizzled’ instructors like Tim San and Richard San to watch these younger blackbelts, who dont just want the next Kata or strike combinations, but who just enjoy understanding the deeper themes of the sword, who find their outlet and means of expression through it. Wisewarrior, Cheltenham sword classFor someone like Hayley San they are using it now as a means to connect with the world around them, and when you get a chance to see her sword demo coming up soon, then we hope you will enjoy and connect to her passion as well.

All students are most welcome to give sword a try, and for those of you on the Standing Order system this extra class comes at no charge! The dojo on Monday has plenty of spare bokkens for you to practice with so pop along!

…and lastly, check out Ben San’s article in the ‘Lounge Blog’ this week!

See you in the dojo!
