(Updates from a Cheltenham-Martial arts-dojo!)

They say selling a home is one of the 3 most stressful events in life, (i can’t remember what the other 2 are, but i’m sure taking black belt grading is in there somewhere!). Tor San, while trying to find somewhere new to live, is using every ounce of his Zen knowledge to stay calm and detached at the moment! But as he took the class through a great repertoire of take-downs and painful floor subjugations his oblique and humorous references to estate agents and pain hinted at his current internal turmoils!! Let’s hope no estate agents within his vicinity ‘kick off’, and need subjugating any time soon! 🙂

We currently have some students studying weapons for the first time in the dojo, which is always good fun!
But as a student learning Aikido or Karate it may be a little hard to understand just how these weapon subjects can help them in their chosen disciplines.
As instructors we see the huge difference and improvement it makes to our students, weapons give them insight into both presentation and performance for the higher grades, plus advances in coordination and dexterity. Cheltenham Martial arts-Jo StaffThe life time study of martial arts is all about the unification of mind and body, thought and deed, that is so hard when its just your ‘fist’ or ‘foot’ you are trying to unify with. A weapon, be that Nunchuka, Jo, Bojo or even Sword, by its very nature is an external medium that you must seek to find balance with, and where you must join thought, deed and action together in the harmony of the physical and the spirit, thats why as a swordsman Tor San is still so calm while house hunting! 🙂

See you in the dojo!

Ok. For all you martial artist studying in Cheltenham, the good news is that in the last week I’ve sold a house and bought a house so this week’s lesson should be about peace and harmony, and not about subjugations and pain 🙂 ….. Let’s hope the contracts are signed without incident or I feel a nerve strike lesson may be in order 😉

See you in the dojo
